Happy 96th Birthday Jack Kirby

2012-08-27-jack_kirby_young-533x358Jack Kirby.

One of the biggest names in comics, creator of a large corner of the Marvel Comics Universe, as well as his fair share of books over at DC.

He would have been 96 years old today.

Happy Birthday Mr. Kirby.

Mr. Kirby is one of my favorite artist and creators. Two of my favorite comics of all time Eternals at Marvel and Kamandi from DC are creations of his. Would have loved to have had the chance to have met him before he passed.

31 Days of GI JOE – Quick Kick

qkick1 Drawing for each day. I am going to start by doing one for each letter of the alphabet… Then an additional five of my personal favorite joes…

Day 17 is Quick Kick

Quick Kick was one of a very small number of Joes to be killed off in the original Marvel Comic.

From Wikipedia:

Quick Kick’s final appearance was issue #109. Several Joes, including Quick Kick, are captured by Cobra during a mission in Trucial-Abysmia. A misinterpreted order from Cobra Commander leads the Crimson Twins into thinking they are now obligated to have the Joes killed. Noting their reluctance, a S.A.W.-Viper steps up to volunteer for the task. He first kills the medic ‘Doc‘, then opens fire on the subdued, captured Joes, killing Thunder and Heavy Metal. A well-aimed knife, previously hidden, allows the survivors to escape. They steal a Cobra Rage tank. Cobra forces pursue and destroy the tank, killing Quick-Kick, Breaker and Crazylegs. Duke, Lt. Falcon, and Cross-Country are the only survivors.[7]

I never forgave Marvel for Killing off Breaker.

“Here’s the situation. You want to gain access to a fortified villa. Twelve foot tall continuous wall topped with razor-spiral and only one gate through it. Two inch steel plate on the gate, two sand-bagged guard houses with direct telephone link to the main house four guards with submachine guns, two Dobermans and a silent alarm hooked to a deadman’s switch that one of the guards is leaning on at all times. How to do it? Have Quick Kick hit it, that’s how!”
